Pollution troubled China has come up with a brilliant idea to tackle pollution. Find out what it is?
Pollution is one of the biggest problems that are threatening the mankind in today’s times. It is not only man-made, but is also making it difficult for humans to live a healthy life in almost every country of this planet Earth. While many attribute this to deforestation on massive scale and rise of industries in the world, one country has taken a massive step in order to reduce pollution in its home and that city is China. It has been regularly rated as the most polluted country in the world and now it has undertaken a massive innovative step in order to curb the pollution in cities. Check out the innovative idea that needs to be implemented in every city of the world.
1 Pollution in China
China is the leader in air pollution in the world and most of its cities rank in the most polluted places on the planet. Massive urbanization and some well earned economic growth have led to increase in the number of vehicles in the major cities of China. The fumes and smoke from these vehicles contain carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and nitrogen gases which are extremely dangerous to humans, animals and environment alike. The second reason of massive pollution in China is the coal powered plants those emit more pollutants and smoke containing poisonous components like Mercury, Sulfur Dioxide, and Volatile Organic Compounds. These factories also discard lead and other similarly harming compounds into rivers as byproducts polluting not just the air, but also the water of their country. All this contribute to the environment pollution which has become poisonous to live in and breathe in. To counter all this, China has come up with a brilliant solution, which you can read in the next slide.
2 Vertical forests: The brilliant and creative idea
In an effort to curb the urban problem of smog due to increasing pollution, China has decided to construct Asia’s first vertical forest. A vertical forest is an idea that is already prevalent in countries like Mexico, Italy and Switzerland. China has given the contract of this construction to the Italian firm Stefano Boeri and the first two towers will be constructed in the city of Nanjing. The towers will be known as Nanjing vertical forests and will be located in the Pukao district and are scheduled to be completed in 2018. The towers will be 200 m and 108 m in heights respectively and will be covered in over 1,100 trees and 2,500 shrubs and plants covering 25,000 sq.ft areas of the buildings.
3 How it will help tackling pollution?
The buildings are expected to soak up 25 tons of Carbon Dioxide every year and produce 60 kg of Oxygen every day. The taller of the two towers will have offices, a museum and a school for green architecture in it. While the smaller of the two towers will be a hotel for the Hyatt Group of Hotels and will have 247 rooms in it with a club and swimming pool at the terraces. China implemented this solution after the tremendous success of Bosco Verticale in Italy and similar green tower in Switzerland, designed by the same firm. This is an impressive and wonderful way to involve and introduce more greenery into the urban cities where space is less for growing gardens and parks. It will also give a personal mini garden to everybody living in the towers. This idea is really a wonderful and innovative way to decrease pollution in the country.
